SOUTH LOOP — Staffers at Shedd Aquarium are almost ready to name their 6-month-old dolphin calf, but they're turning to the public for a final decision, according to a Tuesday announcement.

From now until Tuesday, an open online poll will ask visitors to choose a name between two options: "Kolohe," the Hawaiian word for "rascal," or "Makoa," which means "fearless."

Visitors to Shedd's website can also check out a live 24-hour stream of the Pacific white-sided dolphin, which was born in June.

Enlisting outside help to name the calf will be a "meaningful way to educate our guests about the history and importance of Pacific white-sided dolphins and what goes into their every day care at the aquarium,” said Tim Binder, executive vice president of animal care, according to a press release.

The final name will be revealed during a live broadcast at the aquarium next Wednesday morning, the release said.
