NORWOOD PARK — A two-day celebration — featuring Santa Claus, carolers and sleigh rides, and the lighting of the Christmas tree near the Norwood Park Metra station — will mark the start of the holiday season.

Winterfest, sponsored by the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce and the Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce, will transform the Norwood Park business district into a winter wonderland for both adults and children from noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, organizers said.

Santa Claus will be on hand to take pictures with the young and young at heart, and sleigh rides will take revelers through the neighborhood, organizers said.

The tree near the Norwood Park Metra Station, 6008 N. Northwest Hwy., will be lit at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and a choir performing Christmas classics will perform, organizers said.

Spiced wine and hot chocolate will be available to keep the chill away, and crafters will peddle their wares. Some businesses plan to stay open later than usual on Sunday, organizers said.
