
CHICAGO — Wendell Phillips Academy is heading back to the IHSA Class 4A state finals after crushing Marengo 47-13 on Saturday night at Gately Stadium.
Phillips (13-0) will face Belleville Althoff Catholic (13-0) at 7 p.m. Friday at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb as it seeks Chicago's first state title from a Public League school. The game will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet.
Phillips advanced to last year's state finals and lost to Rochester. The only other Chicago Public League team to reach the state championship game was Robeson's 1982 squad.
Marist advanced to the 8A state finals with a 31-16 victory over Waubonsie Valley. The RedHawks (9-4) will face Loyola (13-0) in the state championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday The game also will air on CSN.
