THE LOOP — Chicagoans sent well wishes to Paris and said they stood in solidarity with the French capital after a series of attacks there Friday.

More than 100 people were killed and hundreds more wounded in a series of shooting and bombing attacks around Paris, officials said. Some Chicagoans have vowed to "pray for Paris" and called for an end to violence throughout the world. A vigil is planned for 5 p.m. Saturday at the French Consulate at 205 N. Michigan Ave.

Some put up signs or displayed the French flag. The Bulls put "Pray For Paris" on their video boards at a game at the United Center and the Mexican Consulate in Chicago tweeted out support, showing a building lit in red, white and blue to match France's flag.

"Tonight the city of Chicago stands shoulder to shoulder with the city of Paris in the wake of today's despicable and horrifying attacks," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement released Friday night. "For nearly 20 years Chicago and Paris have been sister cities, united by a free and rich exchange of culture.

"I speak for all Chicago when I say that we are saddened and sickened by what has taken place tonight and our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, their families and with all of the French people."

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said there is "no credible threat or nexus to Chicago," though police are in contact with "federal and international partners" to stay vigilant. All Chicago Public Schools and University of Chicago students who were in Paris are safe and accounted for, officials said.
