OLD TOWN — Developers want to build a boutique hotel on Wells Street in Old Town.

Condor Partners and Chicago Development Partners are looking to build the luxury hotel at 1528 N. Wells St., a site that is currently occupied by O'Brien's Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant, which has called Old Town home for more than 30 years, would re-open in the new hotel.

"The new hotel on Wells Street will provide a much needed amenity for Old Town and Gold Coast residents and will attract and keep visitors within the vicinity to enjoy Old Town's rich cultural and retail offerings," according to a news release.

Once architectural plans are complete, the developers will present them to neighbors and merchants the first week of December, according to the release.

Renderings of the hotel were not immediately available.

Sol Barket, founder of Condor Developments, is responsible for the Roosevelt Collection development in the South Loop. He also headed up the acquisition and repositioning of Hotel Lincoln in Lincoln Park.

Howard Weiner, principal of Chicago Development Partners, has experience building in Old Town: His company built the condo building at 1414 N. Wells St., and has plans to build a project at 101 W. North Ave. that some neighbors oppose.
