HYDE PARK — The Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company is hosting auditions for “Princess Ida” on Saturday and Sunday, but be careful, it’s not the ending many know from the musical.

The company will hold auditions from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday and 1-6 p.m. on Sunday for “Princess Ida” at the Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St.

The musical tells the story of a princess who casts aside her forthcoming marriage to a prince to run a university and then must confront the scorned prince again to prevent war through a battle of the sexes.

“This production of ‘Princess Ida’ has been fully updated for 2016 audiences, with an ending that has been revised to reflect our modern understanding of gender roles — in other words, you won't hear Ida admit defeat in this production,” the company said in the casting call announcement.

The production is looking to cast 15 characters and both a male and female chorus and there are multiple roles available for singers of all registers.

Reserved audition slots are available by visiting the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company website and a full list of available parts is also posted.

Rehearsals start in mid-January on Sunday afternoons and two weekday evenings, with more meetings required for main actors.

Three performances will be held on March 11-13 at Mandel Hall on the University of Chicago campus.
