WOODLAWN — A 40-year-old man was seriously wounded in a shooting Monday evening in Woodlawn, police said.

At 6:52 p.m., the man was standing on the sidewalk in the 6200 block of South Vernon Avenue when two men walked out of a nearby gangway and started shooting, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Pacheco said.
