CHICAGO — PAWS is waiving adoption fees for veterans as it asks them to become "a hero for a homeless pet" on Veterans Day.

PAWS will waive the adoption fees for all cats ($25-$100) and dogs ($275-$350) for veterans on Wednesday. Those who wish to participate must bring a VA card or DD-214 form to PAWS' two participating locations:

• 1997 N. Clybourn Ave. in Lincoln Park, open noon-7 p.m.

• 1616 Deerfield Road in suburban Highland Park, open 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
