CHICAGO — Two people were hospitalized after a car hit multiple pedestrians at State and Monroe Thursday evening, officials said.

Around 4:20 p.m., "a vehicle struck multiple pedestrians" in the 0-100 block of East Monroe Drive in the busy State Street shopping district, Chicago Police spokesman Officer Thomas Sweeney said.

Two people were taken to the hospital, one in serious condition and one in good condition, according to Director Larry Langford of the Chicago Fire Department.

Neither police nor fire officials could confirm additional details. A Reddit post appeared shortly after the crash, claiming, "A van just plowed through a crowd of pedestrians at State and Monroe."
