31-Year-Old Man Shot in Chatham Dies Days Later

CHATHAM — A 31-year-old man who was injured in a drive-by shooting in Chatham Oct. 21 died two days later, records show.

The man was in the 8700 block of South Wabash Avenue at 7:34 p.m. Oct. 21 when a car drove up and fired shot, Chicago Police spokeswoman Ana Pacheco said at the time. She originally said he was 21 years old.

He was struck in his head and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, Pacheco said. He was pronounced dead two days later, Oct. 23 at 2:01 p.m. at the hospital.

He was later identified as Malek Taylor, 31, of the 9500 block of South Forest Avenue, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's records.

The man is a documented gang member, according to police.
