LINCOLN PARK — Calling all fans of free food: Nando's Peri-Peri's New City location is offering free chicken this weekend to celebrate Halloween.

Nando's Peri-Peri will be giving away free quarters of chicken, chicken sandwiches, wraps and pitas from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at its New City location, 1500 N. Clybourn Ave.

The promotion is first-come, first-served and is available to dine-in customers only. No Halloween costumes are required.

Nando's signature peri-peri chicken, or piri piri as it is sometimes referred to, is named for the African bird's eye chile that flavors the sauce. The chicken is marinated for 24 hours, then grilled and basted. Customers choose the heat level of the sauce.

The restaurant chain, which now operates 1,200 locations in 23 countries, launched in South Africa in 1986. Besides Chicago, the only other U.S. Nando's restaurants are in the Washington, D.C. area.
