LINCOLN PARK — Lincoln Park High School declared itself the No. 1 school choice in the city through a new marketing campaign this summer. Now it has top marks from Chicago Public Schools to back that up.

The high school, 2001 N. Orchard St., earned a "Level 1+" rating this year, the highest school rating on CPS' five-point scale.

"I really think the wall-to-wall [International Baccalaureate] program has helped a lot because the main messages that it sends out to kids is that we have high expectations for everybody. That message has translated into higher performances in areas across the school," said school Principal Michael Boraz.

Last year, the school earned a "Level 1" rating, and was just shy of the "Level 1+ rating," Boraz said.

This year, the high school excelled across many criteria, including standardized test scores, high school dropout rate and freshman-on-track rate, the report shows.

"I'm really happy about it because it shows the work we've been putting in," he said, crediting the teachers, administrators and college counselors for their hard work.

He said he was particularly proud of the school's increased college persistence rate and the freshman-on-track rate.

"We're trying to beef up our approach to college counselors. It's really starting early with ninth- and 10th-graders to make sure they know what they need to do," he said.
