COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Minneapolis tourist turned the table on lakefront robbers Saturday when he grabbed one of their knives and started swinging, prosecutors said.

The victim was able to slash one of the attackers, 18-year-old Luis Salgado-Camargo, in the arm — and all three robbers ran away, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during a bond hearing Monday.

Salgado-Camargo wore his arm in a sling Monday as he appeared before Cook County Judge James Brown on Class X armed-robbery charges.

A second assailant, 22-year-old Noe Mondragon, also appeared in court Monday. Police are still searching for the third attacker.

The robbery happened about 11:50 p.m. Saturday as the victim, 27, and his girlfriend, 26, walked back to their hotel, prosecutors said. The couple got turned around searching for an underpass near Oak Street Beach, and they soon found themselves surrounded by three men.

Armed with a 4-inch blade, the men stole a wallet, credit cards, passport and cell phone from the victims, both of whom live in Minneapolis, court records show.

During a scuffle that ensued, the male victim got stabbed in his arm. But he was also able to grab the knife and use it against Salgado-Camargo, prosecutors said.

The victim's stab wound was not life-threatening. He was treated and released from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to an arrest report.

After the attack, which happened in the 1100 block of North Lake Shore Drive, the victims flagged down police, and the male victim began to search for his belongings in the area, the report said.

He soon came across alleged robber Mondragon, who was still hiding nearby, police said. The victim detained Mondragon until police could arrest him.

In court Monday, prosecutors identified Mondragon as the man who stabbed the victim.

Mondragon, of the 4100 block of South Artesian Street, was arrested late Saturday and charged with aggravated battery and armed robbery. He is currently on parole for robbery and was held Monday on $950,000 bail.

Salgado-Camargo, of the 4100 block of West 25th Street, was arrested Sunday afternoon and charged with two counts of armed robbery. His bail was set at $500,000.

Police are still searching for the third suspect.
