LINCOLN SQUARE — If the recent warm temperatures had you confused about which season we were in, allow Giddings Fountain to remind you that it's fall and winter's not far behind.

The fountain's water had been turned off last week and on Wednesday crews were seen battening down the bubbler's hatches.

Though Giddings Fountain feels like it's been part of Lincoln Square since there was a square, it's a relative newcomer to the neighborhood, installed in 1999. (And yes, we know the name of the fountain's location is officially Kempf Plaza, but even the Public Building Commission calls the site Giddings Plaza.)

Fear not, the fountain will emerge from hibernation next spring, but until then, we leave you with this memory of fonder, warmer times, way back in April.
