LINCOLN PARK — Modern furniture retailer Blu Dot is coming to the space formerly occupied by The Original Mitchell's diner at the corner of Clybourn Avenue, West Cortland Street and North Racine Avenue.

Blu Dot is planning to lease the 7,561-square-foot space at 1953 N. Clybourn Ave. and open in late spring of next year, according to New York-based real estate firm RFK, the company that brokered the deal.

The Original Mitchell's diner has been closed since 2011.

“We received strong interest from local and national retailer brands, as the center’s prime corner location on the Clybourn Corridor gives it outstanding visibility and access to affluent North Side residents,” said RFK director Steve Schwartz in a written statement.

Blu Dot was attracted to the area due to the other tenants along Armitage, “as well as the other upscale furniture and home décor retailers in the immediate area,” the statement said.

Blu Dot will join a retail center that is home to Athletico, US Bank, Kidsnips and American Mattress. Fast-casual Mexican restaurant Moe's Southwest Grill, barbershop chain Floyd's 99 Barbershop and glasses boutique Eye Mechanix have all recently joined the strip as well thanks to deals brokered by RFK.

In addition to Blu Dot, RFK is also bringing in a UPS store and Las Vegas-based bakery Nothing Bundt Cakes to the retail center.

In total, RFK has arranged six leases and filled 15,106 square feet of space in the strip, which offers more than 30,000 square feet. The firm is still looking to lease one remaining 644-square-foot retail space.
