Wrigleyville Airbnb Hosts Lure Cubs Fans With 1945 Car Rides, Jumbo TVs

By Ariel Cheung | October 20, 2015 11:45am

WRIGLEYVILLE — After shelling out as much as $20,000 for a Cubs ticket, fans flocking to Wrigleyville will be on the hunt for couches to crash on or cheap spots to snooze in between National League Championship Series games.

Some have found their answer in Airbnb, a community marketplace for renting out homes and apartments for short stays. New hosts have been popping up near Wrigley Field, hoping to get a slice of the playoffs pie alongside 4,000 hosts in Chicago.

Bookings last week doubled compared to this time last year, and that's partially because of the Cubs' postseason, according to an Airbnb spokeswoman. The Cubs won the last two games of the National League Division Series at Wrigley Field Oct. 12 and 13, but they're down 0-2 against the New York Mets in the NLCS.

They'll face off the next three games at Wrigley Field, starting at 7:07 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

So if you're coming to town, why not stay in style? Here are some of the top Wrigleyville Airbnb spots you can still snag:

"Classic Chicago grey stone" complete with 1945 cruiser

A stone's throw from Wrigley Field, the three-bedroom apartment has just been remodeled with new beds and furniture. Along with the ideal location, the listing also offers rides in a 1945 car for an extra fee, so fans can get a taste of what life was like the last time the Cubs were in the World Series. $500 per night plus $82 in fees/taxes.

"A Cubs Fan Dream Location"

This private room two blocks from Wrigley Field includes a wet bar, private outdoor terrace and a view of Wrigley Field. They also have guest robes, which sounds super lux, and share kitchen and living room space. It is three flights up, and the house has two dogs (both friendly). $150 per night plus $60 in fees/taxes.

"Wrigley beautiful 3 bedroom"

Located on West Waveland Avenue one block west of Wrigley Field, the entire three-bedroom home is up for grabs. With a fully stocked kitchen and free cable, live like you're back at Mom's during the NLCS. The rooms are gorgeously decorated, and with a gated backyard and patio, you could even grill up some Chicago-style hotdogs before heading to the game. $495 per night plus $81 in fees/taxes.

"Stay where you play!!" (AKA above Roscoe's)

If you're ready to party all night long, the three-bedroom apartment at Roscoe and Halsted will work perfectly. Every inch of the place is prettily furnished, with steampunk clock art and ferns galore. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything but food, and Wrigley Field is a 10 minute walk away. The listing warns that Roscoe's bar can be heard as late as 3 a.m., so it's not the best place to crash before a job interview. But a Cubs game? You'll be up late celebrating anyway. $225 per night plus $161 in fees/taxes. 2-night minimum stay.

"Upscale Penthouse in Wrigleyville"

The penthouse is lovely, but its rooftop patio is REDONKULOUS. Guests stay in a private beddroom but have access to everything else in the apartment. Two blocks from Wrigley Field, you can practically smell the home runs. There's even parking — the true test of a Chicago gem. If you aren't heading to the Friendly Confines, you can still enjoy the Cubs on a 65" screen in the cushy living room. $240 per night plus $39 in fees/taxes.

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
