NORTH CENTER — Folks who live in or regularly pass through North Center are about to get hit with a road work double-whammy.

New water mains are set to be installed, starting this week, underneath both Damen and Lincoln avenues between Irving Park Road and Addison Street.

The new eight-inch pipes will replace mains that date back to 1890.

Parking will be restricted as needed and water shutoffs are to be expected, with the Water Department typically providing 24-hour notice of the latter except in emergency situations.

Sign up for alerts related to the project's progress at www.buildinganewchicago.org. Enter project number 1501361. You'll receive updates on everything from when equipment is scheduled to arrive on site to anticipated resurfacing dates.

Water main work is the gift that keeps on giving: The stretch of Lincoln Avenue between Lawrence and Montrose is slated for replacement in winter 2016.
