HYDE PARK — Actress Val Gray Ward will play 17 characters, including some of the African American giants of the literary scene, in a new show at the Logan Center.

Ward will present her one-woman show, “My Soul is a Witness" at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St.

The performance, where Ward will potray Weldon Johnson, Langston Hughes, Mari Evans and Richard Wright, is a sort of homecoming for the actress. Ward was an early collaborator in Kuumba, one of the most important African American theaters to come out of the black arts movement of the late ‘60s.

Tickets are $20, $10 for seniors and students, and are available on tickets.uchicago.edu.
