Female Joggers Assaulted in River and Legion Parks, Police Warn Community

LINCOLN SQUARE — In two separate incidents, women reported being "inappropriately touched" while jogging through River and Legion parks along the Chicago River, police are warning residents.

Ald. Pat O'Connor (40th) shared an alert from the 20th (Foster) Police District. No additional information was provided regarding the dates or times of the assaults, only that they had taken place recently.

The incidents were reported in the 5100 block of North Francisco Avenue and the 5500 block of North Virginia Avenue.

The offender was described as approximately 20 to 25 years old.

Common safety tips for runners:

• Run in pairs or groups.

• Don't wear earphones or, if you can't live without your tunes, use only one earbud.

• Take extra precautions at night, including running with a headlamp or cellphone.

• Carry a whistle or other noisemaker.
