EDGEWATER — Neighborhood workout spot Cheetah Gym in Edgewater announced Monday with "regret" that by the month's end, their doors at 5838 N. Broadway would be shut to customers.

By Nov. 30, the Edgewater location will be closed completely, management said in a letter taped to the business' front desk.

Operations from the North Broadway spot will consolidate with the gym's Andersonville location, 5248 N. Clark St.

Memberships will "automatically transfer" to Clark Street and clients will be billed for the month of November on Oct. 16, but they can cancel in person at either location beforehand, the letter says.

Though Halloween will be the last day of classes at the Edgewater gym, management says many of the same programs will be included in a new schedule in Andersonville. As many of the classes will be available at the same or similar times as possible, they said.

The Edgewater Kid's Gym closes the same day, but management says the next day a gym area for kids will open in Andersonville's Cheetah location.

The building on Broadway was bought in 2008 with a $3,915,000 mortgage, which was foreclosed upon in June 2013. In August 2013, the building's owner was ordered to pay $773,649 to the company holding the mortgage.

In September of this year, the building's owner received a statement that said ownership rights to the building would be assigned to the bank until unpaid money owed by the building's owner was received.

Cheetah Gym in Edgewater isn't the first gym to close in the neighborhood.

Earlier this year Know No Limits gym, whose owner also owns Cheetah, closed at their Clark Street location just months after LA Fitness opened up on North Broadway.

Management did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
