Cubs Win Flags Fly on Mag Mile

MICHIGAN AVENUE BRIDGE — Regardless of what happens during Wednesday's playoff, the Chicago Cubs are still winners — for now — on the Magnificent Mile.

Two Cubs win flags, marked by the familiar blue "W" on white fabric, have been unfurled next to the city, state, and American flags on Michigan Avenue Bridge. There is one Cubs flag on each side of the bridge.

The Cubs will enter their first postseason since 2008 after finishing this season with a 97-65 record. They will face their division rival Pittsburgh Pirates in a one-game playoff starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

The city's bridges are managed by the Chicago Department of Transportation. Mike Claffey, a CDOT spokesman, said the flags went up Friday and are only on Michigan Avenue Bridge. The Cubs also sent smaller "W" flags currently hanging in City Hall, Claffey said.

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
