ALBANY PARK — Want to have a say in spending $1 million?

Newly elected Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa is delivering on his campaign pledge to introduce participatory budgeting to the 35th Ward, which includes swaths of Albany Park and Irving Park. (Click here for a map of the ward.)

Rosa will outline his process and how residents can get involved at an information session scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at New Life Community Church, 3542 W. Sunnyside Ave.

Aldermen annually receive approximately $1.3 million earmarked for infrastructure improvements — paving streets, upgrading traffic signals, replacing street lamps, etc.

Historically aldermen have directed the spending themselves but in recent years a number of council members have begun soliciting project ideas from constituents and putting them to a vote.
