HYDE PARK — A University of Chicago employee was robbed at gunpoint near campus early Sunday morning, according to a university news release.

Around 12:05 a.m., the staffer was walking in the 800 block of East 59th Street, near the western edge of campus, when four people walked up and one of them drew a gun, the release said.

The robbers then "took the victim's property" before fleeing west toward Washington Park, officials said.

University security officials are urging people to travel in groups and avoid using cell phones while walking late at night, the release said.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspects is encouraged to call University of Chicago Police at 773-702-8181.
