IRVING PARK — Dancers are some of the buffest people on the planet, so why not train like one to get fit?

That's the premise behind Dovetail Studios (not to be confused with the just announced Dovetail Brewery), a combined dance/fitness center, which is hosting a grand opening party from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at 2853 W. Montrose Ave.

The event will include performances representing various classes offered at the studios, along with a community dance party to cap off the afternoon.

Owner Joanna Read is a dancer, choreographer and faculty member at the Dance Center of Columbia College. She's recruited pros from a variety of disciplines — tap, ballet, jazz and hip-hop — to teach dance classes appropriate for nearly every age group and experience level, from beginner to professional.

On the fitness side, Dovetail offers classes like ballet sculpt, cardio barre, yoga and boot camp. A slate of free classes allows people to sample sessions before committing to purchasing a class pass: $18 for a single class; $137.50 for 10 classes; and $245 for 20 classes.
