BorgWarner Sign Coming Down on Michigan Avenue

By David Matthews | September 22, 2015 3:51pm | Updated on September 22, 2015 3:55pm

GRANT PARK — A familiar rooftop sign visible from Grant Park is being taken down on Michigan Avenue.

Crews were taking down the BorgWarner sign from the office building at 200 S. Michigan Ave. on Tuesday afternoon. The sign had been atop the building for years despite BorgWarner, an auto parts supplier, leaving the tower in 2005.

The Chicago Architecture Blog last month noticed a demolition permit for the sign. Another tenant in the building, law firm Howard & Howard PLLC, late last year applied for a permit for its own rooftop sign, but later withdrew its application, according to city records and a representative of the firm.

Stay tuned on whether any sign will take BorgWarner's place.
