UPTOWN — A neighborhood group is being formed in a troubled pocket of Uptown that was recently the site of a double homicide, according to Ald. Harry Osterman (48th).

"Recent events have shown us the need to stand together as neighbors and take back our neighborhood is greater than ever. I would like to announce the creation of a newly formed neighbors association in the area to help us achieve that goal," Osterman said in an email Friday.

Osterman hinted at the formation of the Argyle Neighbors Association during a community walk last week. On Wednesday, more than 60 neighbors took a two-block tour of the area from the well publicized Argyle Streetscape project to the location of the double homicide.

"This newly formed association will span Broadway to Sheridan, Ainslie to Winona and will include participation from residents along with businesses on Argyle," Osterman said. "We invite all residents to join the block club so that we can work together in achieving our goals of a safe and thriving Argyle."

During the summer, gang activity and violence has been concentrated in the area, Osterman said.

The first meeting will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Osterman's satellite office, at 1006 W. Argyle St. The agenda includes a meet-and-greet, committee sign-up and planning the first Argyle Neighbors block party, Osterman said.
