STREETERVILLE — A new Marriott hotel under construction on Ontario Street will close the sidewalk and at times the whole road through 2016.

Through January, pedestrians in the 200 block of East Ontario Street will be rerouted off the sidewalk and onto a "protective walkway" during preliminary work on the 21-story Marriott Autograph, 228 E. Ontario St. A parking lane on the south end of the street will be repurposed for motorists, according to the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents.

In January a crane will be erected over the site, closing the street for a few days on the block. The road will be closed again when the crane is expected to be removed in July.

Construction is expected to last through November 2016. The hotel is being developed by ECD Co., which also built the Wit in The Loop and another Streeterville hotel, the Fairfield Inn & Suites at 216 E. Ontario.
