MOUNT GREENWOOD — A photo project at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School in Mount Greenwood aims to build excitement for Pope Francis' first visit to the U.S. next month.
The all-girls Catholic high school at 3737 W. 99th St. is asking students, faculty and neighborhood residents to take a picture with "Flat Francis."
The paper figure made to look like the pontiff is meant for posing. Some of the pictures with the two-dimensional pope have already been posted on Mother McAuley's website.
Participants are also asked to share their photos on social media using the hashtag #FlatFrancis.

The school credited Catholic Extension — a national fundraising organization committed helping poor mission dioceses across the country — for the idea.
"Join us in welcoming [Pope Francis] by taking a photo with Flat Francis at any event that represents your experience of the Catholic Church, whether it be at your school, with your family or your priest, at a youth group event, on a field trip, during a retreat, or anything else," the McAuley website reads.
Anyone interested in participating in the picture project at McAuley is encouraged to email their photos to mmoran@mothermcauley.org.
