RAVENSWOOD — The new name for Beans & Bagels Montrose is ... drum roll please ... Spoken.

Following the big reveal on Wednesday, Sidonie Gaude, a partner in the cafe with husband Will Goodwin, explained the meaning behind Spoken and its logo.

The logo's silhouette is of a cypress tree, an iconic image in the couple's home state of Louisiana, she said.

The name, Gaude said, has several connotations.

One one level, Spoken refers to the fact that "people come to coffee shops to talk, chat, meet and catch up," she said. "So much history and tradition and personal relationships are made by talking."

There's also the link to wheel spokes, which ties into Goodwin's passion for bikes, as well as a play on the word "bespoke," which relates to the couple's mission to make everything from scratch — including the cafe's furnishings.

Perhaps most importantly, two years after Goodwin purchased the cafe contingent upon retaining the Beans name through this month, "the shop's finally spoken for," said Gaude.

Spoken refers to the conversations sparked at coffee shops, bicycles and the cafe's handmade aesthetic. [DNAinfo/Patty Wetli]
