CHICAGO — Tomorrow is Friday! Get the weekend started early by enjoying the warm summer night.
1. Rock Out With Kid-Friendly Acoustic Jams: Part of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce’s “Family Nights” schedule, Laura Doherty and the Heartbeats will be playing a special show for families with acoustic pop rock songs everyone can sing and dance to. As always, the first 75 guests get free frozen custard from Edgewater’s own Lickity Split, so don’t be late! Broadway Armory Parking Lot, 5917 North Broadway, 6:30 p.m., Free.
2. Back to School Event at Gill Park: The event hosted by the 46th Ward will provide raffle prizes, activities for students, food for guests and music. From 6-8 p.m. 825 W. Sheridan Rd.
3. Delicious Activity Awaits At Kid’s Table: A few weeks ago, children made quinoa salad at the Low-Line Market, and The Kid’s Table is returning today with another opportunity for youngsters to make and taste something yummy. The farmers market has a host of vendors offering fresh produce, meats (bison burgers — yum!) and pre-packaged, single-serving, ready-to-cook meals. From 3 to 8 p.m. under the Southport ‘L’ Brown Line Station, 3411 N. Southport Ave.
4. Eat Pasta in the Sun: Does anything sound better? Festa Italiana, an annual celebration of the delicious food of Taylor Street, kicks off Thursday. There will be food, live music and more. Kicks off at 5 p.m. Thursday on Taylor Street between Ashland and Racine. Thursday 5-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 12 – 11 p.m. and Sunday 12-10 p.m. $5 suggested donation.
5. Drink Beer on a Rooftop: Fountainhead has a sweet rooftop and a solid happy hour: from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., snag select cans of craft brews for $4 and $5. Hungry? Order up their tasty meat and cheese board while you're at it. 1970 W. Montrose Ave.
