NORWOOD PARK — If you've ever dreamt of sampling 50 beers in one evening — or 50 wines — the Norwood Park Historical Society's Stems and Steins Fundraiser is the good excuse you've been waiting for.

Tickets are now on sale for the eighth annual event from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 that raises money for the society, which works to preserve the Noble Seymour Crippen House, the oldest house in Chicago, 5624 W. Newark Ave. Tickets are $50 until Aug. 31, when the cost rises to $60.

Chicago’s Foremost Liquor Center will provide tastes of 50 craft and international beers as well as 50 wines from around the world. Appetizers and desserts designed to highlight the beer and wine will be served during the event outside the Noble Seymour Crippen House in Norwood Park.

The event will also feature a silent auction of restaurant and event gift certificates, cooking and kitchen items, beer gift baskets, sports memorabilia, games, artwork and wine gift baskets, organizers said. A raffle will also take place. Tickets are two for $5, organizers said.

Liz Garibay, of History on Tap, is scheduled to discuss the history of liquor and drinking on the Northwest Side, where the sale of liquor was prohibited in many areas, at 4 p.m. Sept. 12.

Stems and Steins is the historical society's largest fundraiser. Attendees must be 21 or older, organizers said.
