Two Killed, 43 Hurt in Weekend Shootings, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two people were killed and 43 others were hurt in weekend violence, police said.

That includes a man who was killed and nine others who were wounded in gun violence from Sunday into Monday, police said.

A 32-year-old man was shot to death in an attempted robbery in North Lawndale Sunday night, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A 26-year-old man was shot in both his feet while sitting in a car in River North Sunday night, Pacheco said.

A 31-year-old man was shot in his arm and his leg in West Englewood early Monday morning, Pacheco said.

A 36-year-old man was shot in an attempted robbery in West Town Monday morning, Pacheco said.

A 25-year-old man was shot in his leg in Humboldt Park Monday morning, Pacheco said.

A 35-year-old man was shot in his leg in Little Village Sunday evening, Pacheco said.

• Most recently, an 18-year-old man was shot in Greater Grand Crossing at 4:15 a.m. Monday, Pacheco said.

The man was riding a bike in the 6400 block of South King Drive when he heard gunshots and felt pain, Pacheco said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, Pacheco said, where he was treated for gunshot wounds in his hip and ankle. His condition was not immediately known.

• Around 2 a.m., a 17-year-old was walking in the 2800 block of East 80th Street in South Chicago when someone jumped out of a nearby car and shot him in his hand, Pacheco said.

He brought himself to South Shore Hospital, where he was in good condition, Pacheco said.

Police said the teen is a documented gang member, and they believe the shooting was gang related.

• At 2:25 a.m. Sunday morning, a 20-year-old man was sitting on his porch in the 2800 block of West Lexington Street in North Lawndale when he heard gunshots and felt pain, Pacheco said.

The man brought himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Pacheco said, where he was in good condition after being treated for a graze wound in his arm.

• About an hour earlier, a 19-year-old man was walking in the 2100 block of North Mulligan Avenue in Belmont-Cragin when someone got out of a nearby car and shot at him, Pacheco said.

The man was brought to Loyola University Medical Center in serious condition with a gunshot wound in his chest, Pacheco said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member, and they believe the shooting was gang-related.

Before that, 11 people were wounded in shootings from Saturday into Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Another 24 people were shot, one fatally, from Friday into Saturday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
