NORTH LAWNDALE — A 32-year-old man is dead after an attempted robbery in North Lawndale Sunday night, police said.

About 11:05 p.m., the man was parked in a car in the 1500 block of North Kildare Avenue with a passenger when someone walked up, pulled out a gun and tried to rob them, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

When the man drove away the robber shot him in his side, Pacheco said. He drove about three blocks before crashing into a fence.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, Pacheco said, and the passenger refused medical attention.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Marquis Mitchell, of the 2400 block of West Madison Avenue.

No one is in custody for the shooting, Pacheco said.
