CHICAGO — Chicago only had one restaurant crack the top 10 in a recent ranking of the best pizzas in the country.
Coalfire Pizza, 1321 W. Grand Ave., has a margherita pizza that was ranked the ninth-best in the United States by the Daily Meal, a food and drink site that releases annual rankings. The rankings are based on the judgments of a panel of more than 100 food experts, and 800 pizza places were considered before the list was whittled down to 101, according to the Daily Meal.
Other Chicago pizzas represented on the list were Pequod's deep dish with sausage and pepperoni (15th), Gino's East's cheese deep dish (17th), Lou Malnati's classic (25th), Pizzeria Uno's "Numero Uno" (68th) and Piece's pepperoni and banana peppers (99th).
Regardless of the ranking, Chicago was recently named the best city for pizza in the United States based on reviews from TripAdvisor. So take that, 100 "food experts."
