CHICAGO — A Green Line "L" train derailed Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The train derailed near 61st Street and Calumet Avenue, according to the Chicago Fire Department. No injuries have been reported and the train was safely evacuated, said CTA spokesman Jeff Tolman.

Green Line service has been temporarily suspended between the Cottage Grove and Garfield stops as a result, Tolman said. The CTA is working to restore service as quickly as possible, Tolman said.

Shuttle buses are providing connecting service in the area, and riders can use the No. 3, 4, 55 and 63 buses, Tolman said.

CBS2 reporter Brad Edwards tweeted that one passenger heard an "explosion" while on the train.

The cause of the derailment has not yet been determined and is being investigated, Tolman said.
