COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A suburban man was held on $1 million bail Wednesday after prosecutors said he shot and wounded a man in Albany Park last month.

Phakthra Savath, 19, of north suburban Gurnee, is charged with aggravated battery by discharging a firearm. Police said Savath shot a 21-year-old man in the 4400 block of North Kedzie Avenue on July 20.

The man was standing outside about 1 a.m. when a group of four to five men walked up and started yelling gang slogans, Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman, said at the time of the shooting.

Savath is accused of opening fire with a .45 caliber gun — striking the victim in his left calf and right thigh, court records show.

The victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in fair condition.

After a witness identified Savath as the shooter, police arrested him about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of North Hamlin Avenue, according to an arrest report. He was hiding in a closet, the report said.

On Wednesday, Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Savath held in lieu of $1 million bail. Savath is only allowed to post bond if the Cook County Sheriff's Office agrees to provide electronic monitoring, the judge ruled.
