HYDE PARK — Barack and Michelle Obama’s romance is playing out for a second time on the streets of Hyde Park as a film crew works on a movie about the presidential couple.

There has been eagerness in Hyde Park to catch a glimpse of filming for “Southside with You,” a movie about Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date in 1989.

So there may have been some disappointment when notices went out about parking restrictions on 53rd Street and Kimbark Avenue and crews never arrived on Friday.

It was to be the second time crews were set up on 53rd Street to work on the film, which started on July 14 in Lakeview near Southport Avenue and Grace Street.

Parker Sawyer and Tika Sumpter play the neighborhood’s most famous couple as they go to the Art Institute of Chicago, a screening of Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing” and a stop to get ice cream.

A representative from Southside With You Productions could not be reached for comment.

Crews were spotted on July 17 in front of Kimbark Plaza, and with Friday’s cancellation, it seems likely they will return again at least once this summer.
