CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy is dead after a rescue team pulled him out of Lake Michigan at 35th Street in the Douglas neighborhood, Chicago Fire officials said.

Chicago Fire Department divers responded to a distress call at about 8 p.m., officials said.

WGN TV reported that several swimmers went in to try to save the boy before emergency crews arrived.

They brought Horns to Mercy Hospital in extremely critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead, fire officials said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the boy as Eddie Horns, of the 2900 block of South Federal Street, also in Douglas.
