CHICAGO — Cubs and Sox fans, you can do better.

Online ticket seller TicketCity released its "MLB Fan Power Ranking" Monday, measuring the fanbases for all 30 Major League Baseball teams on metrics from Twitter and Facebook followings to average attendance at games.

Cubs fans are just average as the team came in at 14th place. The South Side White Sox ranked as one of the lowest teams on the list at 26th. Only the New York Mets, Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks and Oakland Athletics are worse.

The Boston Red Sox fans led the list.

Both Chicago teams have poor social media following, according to the study, which measured total following against the population of the metro area.

The Cubs made up for ranking low on social media with higher attendance. The North Side team ranked ninth in attendance with nearly 80 percent of seats filled for all games in 2014.

Poll: Who Has Better Fans?

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the team.
