HYDE PARK — The Hyde Park Jazz Festival has released its schedule of noted jazz composers, ambitious jazz compositions and a host of documentary screenings.
The Hyde Park Jazz Festival will occur on 14 stages from a main stage on the Midway Plaisance to the Kenwood Academy Auditorium to the Rockefeller Chapel sanctuary on Sept. 26-27.
Among the performers announced Tuesday is trumpet player Ambroze Akinmusire, who will perform his 60-minute “Banyan” suite about storytelling and mentorship with a 10-person ensemble twice during the festival.
Henry Threadgill, who’s been called “the most important jazz composer of his generation” by the New York Times, will play with Cuban-born pianist David Virelles at the Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St.
The Logan Center will also host screenings during the festival, including “Radhe Radhe: Rites of Holi,” a film by Prashant Bhargava with a score by Vijay Iyer, and “Scenes from Life” about Orbert Davis’ recent trips to Cuba.
