Teenagers Smash Woman's Truck Window at Stop Light in Woodlawn: Police

By Sam Cholke | July 14, 2015 5:01pm

HYDE PARK — A 14- and 15-year-old boy were arrested after smashing the back window of a woman’s truck in Woodlawn late Thursday, police said.

According to police, the older of the two boys struck the back window of a 29-year-old woman’s truck and broke it at 9:30 p.m. at 60th Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

The younger boy kicked the truck several times, putting several large dents in it, police said.

Both have been charged with misdemeanor damage to property.

A woman who claims to be the victim has come forward saying the boys were not alone and several dozen young men surrounded her car at a stop light after she dropped off a friend at the University of Chicago’s hospital.

Susan Pedersen told ABC7 she was stopped at a light when the group began hitting the car and yelling racial slurs before smashing the back window with a bicycle while her 3-year-old son was in the car.

Pedersen could not be reached for comment.

A Chicago police spokesman said the responding officers from the Grand Crossing District did not report any other people were involved beyond the two boys arrested.
