BRIDGEPORT — A weekly yoga class is coming to the neighborhood.

Starting July 29 on the second floor of First Lutheran Church of the Trinity, 643 W. 31st St., “Strong bodies, Still Minds: Yoga for Strength, Resiliency and Healing” will be offered from 7-8:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

Erika Hobbs, the instructor behind the class, said she’s taking a “trauma-based” approach to teaching students. Though anyone is welcome to attend, the class is fashioned for people who have experienced trauma, such as natural disasters, chronic poverty or sexual abuse.

Yoga is just one of many tools that can be used to alleviate the stress that typically follows traumatic events, Hobbs said.

Interested students are encouraged to make a donation — $10 pays for two students — to the class, but no one will be turned away if he or she does not have the money to donate.

Half of the money donated will go to First Lutheran Church of the Trinity. The other half will be used to buy class supplies, such as yoga mats and snacks.

Students should dress in loose, comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel.
