Buy a Drink, Get a Toy Shark From These Bars During Shark Week

DOWNTOWN — It's that time of year again.

Shark Week.

And to celebrate the annual summertime event, four bars owned by Chicago-based Bottleneck Management are garnishing special cocktails this week with toy sharks. It's kind of like a Happy Meal for adults.

"Shark Infested Water" is available for $11 this week at Howells & Hood, 435 N. Michigan Ave. [Provided]

Starting on Sunday and now in its 28th year, Discovery Channel's Shark Week has since become a staple of summertime cable TV that has permeated pop culture. The week-long shark fest usually airs in August, but Discovery moved it to July this year.

Shark Week, and Bottleneck's promotion, runs through July 12. Here's where to find that plastic, finned toy — and what you can drink with it:

• Sweetwater Tavern and Grille, 225 N. Michigan Ave.: Shark Water ($12) made with Bacardi, Stoli, blue curacao, pineapple juice and pina colada mix. This toy shark comes with a cherry in its mouth.

• The Boundary Tavern and Grill, 1932 W. Division St.: Shark Attack ($10), includes Grey Goose La Poire, berries, lemonade and grenadine.

• Howells & Hood, 435 N. Michigan Ave.: Shark Infested Water ($11) with Bacardi pineapple, orange and cherry “chum,” lime juice, Pimm’s and ginger ale.

• Old Town Pour House, 1419 N. Wells St.: Martha’s Gin-Yards ($10) with Oxley Gin, lime juice, ginger beer, Vandermill Hard Apple Cider and a dash of blue curacao.
