MUSEUM CAMPUS — The Field Museum is showing Deadheads its appreciation this week.

The Downtown museum, 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, has opened a small pop-up exhibit full of Grateful Dead memorabilia as the iconic psychedelic band prepares to play Soldier Field this weekend.

The "Fare Thee Well" shows Friday through Sunday are billed as the last time the Grateful Dead will play together

The Field pulled artifacts from the Dead's archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz and Dead ticket service GDTS Too to put together the exhibit, which, among other things, features vintage Dead posters and bandleader Jerry Garcia's favorite guitar, "Tiger."

"With the concerts happening across the street it was an easy tie-in," Field spokeswoman Emily Waldren said. "It goes back to looking at cultures and Deadheads are a subculture unto its own community, which is pretty cool."

The exhibit, which also includes thousands of fan-designed ticket order envelopes, will remain in the museum's Stanley Field Hall until Sunday, Waldren said. On Saturday afternoon 10 local jazz ensembles will play Grateful Dead covers for museum guests. The museum will also host tribute bands outside playing Dead songs.

Guests can check out the exhibit with an All-Access ($31 for adults) pass. Scroll down for more photos from the exhibit before it leaves Sunday.
