Man Killed, 3 People Wounded in Shooting Near Police Headquarters

CHICAGO — A 52-year-old man was killed and three other people were wounded in a shooting just blocks from Chicago Police headquarters in Bronzeville, police said.

Around 8:20 p.m., two groups exchanged gunfire in the 200 block of East 35th Street sending four people to the hospital, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

A 52-year-old man was shot in his back and taken to Norwegian Hospital in Humboldt Park, where he was later pronounced dead, Pacheco said.

He was later identified as Christian Barlow, of the 2400 block of East 73rd Street, pronounced dead at 8:57 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A 20-year-old woman was shot in her back and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A 20-year-old man was shot in his leg and taken to an area hospital, where his condition was stabilized. An 18-year-old man was shot in his back and also taken to Stroger in serious condition, Pacheco said.

The 52-year-old man is not believed to have been the target of the shooting, Pacheco said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.
