OAKLAND — Use it or lose it.
That's what 4th Ward Ald. Will Burns is telling constituents about weekend service on the CTA's 39 Pershing Road bus.
According to CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase, the "pilot test program" adding weekend service on Pershing Road began in February and is slated to run through the summer.
"We'll take a look at ridership and other factors," Chase said Tuesday. "Do we continue the service?
"We don't want to run empty buses with taxpayer money," she added.
The CTA, Chase said, is still gauging public response, with a decision to be made at the end of summer.
Burns already is rallying support and ridership. In his most recent 4th Ward newsletter, he moved "to encourage everyone to take the 39th Street Bus for your weekend travel," adding, "We worked very hard to get this bus running on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m until 6 p.m., and CTA will not hesitate to end the service if ridership is low."
Burns encouraged local residents to use the bus to connect to the CTA's Green, Red and Orange train lines on their weekend outings.
