Chamber Music to Fill Jefferson Memorial Park

JEFFERSON PARK — The sound of chamber music will fill Jefferson Memorial Park Thursday as part of a series of events that will take place at Northwest Side parks in June, officials said.

The Grant Park Music Festival's Project Inclusion will perform for free at 7 p.m. Thursday as part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Night Out in the Parks program with the Chicago Park District at Jefferson Memorial Park, 4822 N. Long Ave.

Project Inclusion's family-friendly and interactive string concerts are designed to showcase the talents of young musicians of diverse backgrounds, according to the park district.

Other events in the Night Out in the Parks program are:

Toddler Tunes & Turtles will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gladstone Park, 5421 N. Menard Ave. Animal experts will bring a variety of frogs, snakes, birds and turtles for little ones to see and touch. Musicians will play family-friendly songs and children will explore nature in the park, organizers said.

Iron Heart Chicago will perform folk music from 6 to 8 p.m. June 27 at Jefferson Memorial Park as part of a series of concerts honoring six folk music heroes.

• The Crossing Borders Music Collective will perform music from around the world from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 28 at Roberts Square Park, 5200 W. Argyle St. The interactive string quartet program will feature music from Uganda, Haiti, Iran, the Czech Republic and the United States as part of an exploration of the nature of culture.

• Before the screening of "Spare Parts," at 8:30 p.m. June 30 at Dunham Park, 4638 N. Melvina Ave., as part of the Movies in the Parks program a band will perform, officials said.
