PORTAGE PARK — The classic version of the timeless tale of four pizza-loving, crime-fighting turtles will kick off the Chicago Park District's Movies in the Parks series on the Far Northwest Side.

In the 1990 movie "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," a group of mutated turtle warriors emerge from the sewers to protect New York City from an uprising criminal gang of ninjas.

Moviegoers can bring a blanket and a picnic basket to watch current and classic flicks for free during the series.

The schedule for June is:

• "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," at 8:30 p.m. June 17 at Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Ave.
• "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," at 8 p.m. June 24 at Olympia Park, 6566 N. Avondale Ave.
• "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," at 8:30 p.m. June 25 at Brooks Park, 7100 N. Harlem Ave.
• "Spare Parts," at 8:30 p.m. June 30 at Dunham Park, 4638 N. Melvina Ave.
