Got Opinions About Proposed Lincoln Square Charter School? Take This Survey

BOWMANVILLE — Bowmanville residents and their neighbors in the greater Lincoln Square area are being asked to check "yes," "no" or "unsure" as part of a survey aimed at gauging support for Intrinsic Schools' proposed development of a charter school at Western and Balmoral avenues.

During an information session held late last month, representatives from Intrinsic outlined plans to build a 1,000-seat charter school on a four-acre parcel for sale within Rosehill Cemetery.

The survey, created and distributed by the Bowmanville Community Organization, is designed to gather community feedback in advance of Intrinsic's hearings in front of the city's planning commission and zoning board. The results will be shared with Ald. Pat O'Connor (40th), Intrinsic and neighbors.

Questions range from the macro-level — what building use is suitable for the land — to the micro.

Do neighborhood schools meet the needs of local students? Does competition/school choice lead to school improvement? Are neighborhood schools overcrowded? Will a charter divert funds from local schools?

In addition to education issues, the survey also measures where people stand on concerns such as the school's potential impact on traffic.
