HYDE PARK — The Washington Park Arts Incubator is putting a call out to artists working with issues of race and the communities of the South Side.

The gallery space run by the University of Chicago at 301 E. Garfield Blvd. is looking for three Chicago-based artists or collaboratives for a 10-month residency.

The residency, which provides access to studio space and an immersion into the intellectual life of the university, is open to all artists, but there is a preference for artists with an interest in community participation and addressing issues of race and discrimination.

Applications are due Sunday and are available on the university’s website.

The arts incubator is also offering a $7,000 Crossing Boundaries Prize for an artist who wants to collaborate with another practitioner to create a work about race and ethnicity on the South Side.

After five months of work, the project will be publicly displayed on May 31.

The application is due July 12 and is available on the university’s website.
